As a Canadian male I was basically raised on hockey. It permeates so much of the culture it’s insane. I played from the time I was about ten until I was fourteen. By about twelve I was beginning to really plumb the depths of punk via the internet, it wasn’t until I started my first band that I realized playing Hockey (although enjoyable) was kind of shitty and the kids who I played with were douchebags (except for a couple), and that smoking dope/underage drinking and playing music was much more fun and fulfilling. At this point I kind of wrote it off as something for squares. Now that I am of legal drinking age and work a numbingly mundane job fourty hours week, I realize just how awesome it is to get drunk and yell at the television. It’s fast paced, violent and lasts a fairly reasonable amount of time.

And I can still skate just as well as I could when I was younger and fully entrenched in Hockey warfare.
